What
is yoga?
The word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit
word "Yuj" meaning to yoke,
join or unite. It implies a union of
body, mind and soul. There are many
paths of yoga that can be followed.
The physical practice of yoga through
asana (postures) and pranayama (breathing)
is called Hatha Yoga.
What
type of yoga is taught?
In its broadest terms the class is ‘HATHA YOGA’
which is really an umbrella term for all physical yoga.
I am originally trained in Sivananda yoga from the Sunra
Institute but am more recently in training through Shiva
Rea for Vinyasa Flow (www.Shivarea.com) All classes have
a mix of asanas from the disciplines of several forms of
yoga to best suit the needs of students in the classes.
The typical class will follow Prana Flow, a creative sequence
of postures that enable the body to move freely, all the
while progressing in strength and stamina. The class structure
will always include breath work and relaxation.
I have
a little yoga experience, which class
would be most suitable?
The intermediate yoga class is suitable
for those who are comfortable with a
sun salutation and have some experience
with inversion work (shoulder stand
and/or work toward headstand). I would
always welcome you to try the intermediate
class if you think you are able, but
the beginners course is definitely a
more gentle way to ease yourself back
into the practice. Please remember that
you always work to your own level and
capability in any yoga practice.
Can I
practice yoga if I am pregnant?
Yes you can, but I would need to know
ahead of time to ensure that I can adapt
your yoga practice to best suit your physical
needs. For more information on pregnancy
yoga please visit Birthlight,
with whom I trained and greatly admire
.
Can I
come on a drop-in basis?
At the moment I am afraid that I work on a course basis so
you would need to commit to a full course, of a block of classes
for that course. I would certainly allow a drop-in to see
if you like the class. The drop-in price is £11.00.
Please let me know via email or phone if I am to expect you.
What
will I need to wear and bring with me
to the class?
As in all physical exercise, you will
need to wear something comfortable in
which you can move. Also it is advisable
to bring a warm sweater for relaxation
at the beginning and end of the class.
Ideally you would use a yoga mat (a towel
is fine to begin with). They are readily
available from yoga shops and websites
aswell as high-street shops such as Boots,
Argos and Debenhams. Alternatively you
can purchase one from me in the class
for £20. A towel is also advisable
in case you find that you are slipping
on your mat.
